True Love is David Johnson, Jarion Taylor, George Foder, Michael Stone, and Prince Arthur Brown. True Love was started by David Johnson and Jarion Taylor in 1990. They heard Arthur Brown singing and invited him to join. Arthur asked if his cousin, Michael Stone could join. Michael joined the group. David's cousin, George Foder, later joined. George was not as good a singer as the other members, but he could dance. He became the choreographer for the group. Michael had a good fashion sense and he became the group's fashion consultant as well as a singer. David, Jarion, and Arthur did most of the lead singing. Michael and George sang background vocals, mostly. The group began singing. They sung at area school talent shows. They also did parties in the area. By 1992, they were very popular at area schools and with area schoolers, especially the female schoolers. David asked Arthur to talk to his brother King Brown of the group Configuration to see if he could get True Love a deal with Wilson B. Sho' Records. Arthur talked to King. King came by to listen to them. He told them that they weren't ready and left without much of an explanation. The group was upset with King. Jarion began bad-mouthing King and Configuration. King found out. He sat Jarion down and had a long talk with him. King explained to Jarion why he said the group was not ready. King told Jarion, "You all can sing, but you all need some polishing. You all have got the style, but you lack polish. Once you all get polished, you all can have a long career in the business. You all are also you and stupid. If you would have come and asked me about what I said, I would have told you. You just went to bad-mouthing me. Man, that's the kind of stuff that will get you missed up. The group will get messed up, too. The other guys asked me why I said what I said, but because of you, I don't want anything else to do with True Love. Man, now ya'll gotta earn my respect again!" That's just what True Love had to do; earn King's respect. Jarion had set-up a meeting with another record label. True Love tried to sign with the label in 1992, but King found out and told the label that True Love was not ready. They did not sign with the label. Yet again, Jarion had gotten the group in trouble. True Love wanted to kick Jarion out, but King talked them out of it. Jarion was put on probation for six months. Jarion did not lead a song during that time and he had to help with the set-up and breakdown of the equipment before and after gigs. Jarion was not happy with this arrangement. Felix Jones of Configuration began to mentor Jarion. Felix helped Jarion become a better singer and person. In 1994, True Love was introduced to Shakini Davis of Wilson B. Sho' Records. The group signed with Wilson B. Sho' Records in 1995. The group was on its way. They release their first CD in 1997 entitled, It's All About True Love. The CD was written and produced by Configuration. It was a very successful CD. The released their second CD in 2001 entitled, Style, Sound, and Polished. This CD featured The Shades, Them Girls, Honey Gill, and Horatio Augusta. |
